I think I gotta disagree with that limited proliferation idea, because AI helps attacker more then defender. AI is not something you control proliferation of like you do with weapons or othe     See More goods. It is a software, meaning it attackers can and will proliferate it at the speed of piracy - in other words, instantly. While you shouldn't train AI on state secrets or such, we need AIs to defend ourselves, and restrictions on software only bind the people who agree to be restrained. Not only that, but it has to be local AI, not rentable AI. Because the threats aren't just normal attackers - it is the actual corporations and governments that are FAR bigger threats.

An attacker could scam me out of some money I have to fight with my credit card over, or make some fake picture of me having sex with a super-realistic three headed pig. Big woop. Especially the later as AI becomes so widespread we get used to assuming images are more likely to be AI then real and just largely ignore them. We'll get thicker skin pretty darn fast, humans are pretty adaptable.

Corporations though have already deployed low-level algorithms that destabilized societies and radicalized populations. Governments have actively used every tool at their disposal in hybrid warfare (that attack ordinary people) and to monitor / control their own populations. These are the scale of actors I'm afraid of. And I'll take whatever defenses I can get, and I don't trust anyone to have their thumb on the algorithm of my defenses except for me. (And yea, not everyone is techy, but plenty of us are techy and used to managing the software security of our friends and community. We'll keep doing it. My mom or wife don't need to know what anti-viruses are good or how to tweak them, that's what I'm here for.
