It will re     See More rammers. As a function. But those programmers will still have things to do. But not as programmers. Maybe a different role, with a different name. They will not suffer a loss of money necessarily, but rather a loss of status. Something like instead of being a medic, you'll become a nurse and get the same money and the medic getting more. This is because the AI can give basic instructions and acts like an expert. Let's say I'm an experienced programmer. I stay in my office and give advises. People ask me stuff. I work not that much. I just repeat the same things. So my job is easy. I get paid, leave earlier, somewhat OK. But if the AI can answer those questions instead of me, I become useless. So I have to actually work to prove I deserve being there. And I'm better than those other guys. So, if I don't get to do nothing in the office, I want more money then they are getting. Makes sense, right? 10 years ago I made my living out of answering questions like what does sudo apt-get update do. Now the AI answers that easily. No one comes to me for that. By working we feel we contribute to society in a meaningful way and give us something to strive for, a reason to educate and improve ourselves, to build a career, a family and/or a business. Even when a job is menial, low paying without career opportunities, at least you know your daily toil serves a purpose. And jobs also give us important daily routines that helps us in structuring our lives, as well as being an important part of many people's daily social life.

Seems this AI revolution is about to destroy all of this for hundreds of millions of people, in just a few years time. It's not just a blow to the economy but a blow to our own sense of self worth.    See Less
