This is the exact same reaction when photography was invented. Painters and artists said people won't bother painting anymore and that it was the death of creativity. Instead of spending     See More years painting a scene, someone can rock up and take a photo in minutes! And there was the exact same reaction from actors and theatre owners when movies where invented - the people won't make plays anymore and that people won't go to live theatre anymore. Exact same reaction when audio recording and radio was invented - composers, musicians and live performers said it was the death of creativity.

History always repeats and it is happening again.

Also, James Cameron (and his friend) needs to learn how to pronounce Ghibli - it's a J sound like jib-li !    See Less

This is a superb tool that makes imaginative people able to make something would not dream of. There is so much beauty in this. It makes good people brilliant, normal people good and it puts     See More ck into our lives    See Less

@ChristopherCopeland  6 days ago

I suspect a MASSIVE source of the hate and anger in this conversation is actually due to the limitation of the tools thus far: everything being generated right now is honestly quite "sl     See More because-- we are only able to generate little snippets of things that have very little coherence across long periods of time. As a result, 99% of the AI generated content we are consuming in our various feeds is hyper-short-form and wonky and stupid and slapsticky and "sketch-like" and as a result, we're not getting much moment-to-moment interaction with where this medium is actually going, or the doors this technology will open up once it reaches a point of stability and coherence that will allow truly compelling and (hopefully) meaningful visions to be shared.

If I've learned anything from seeing how quickly this technology is developing, it's that most people have almost no ability to extrapolate future possibilities of technological advancement from presently-available data and experience.

This tech is also especially unique because even though it's still in its ABSOLUTE infancy, it's radically unlike most technological developments in storytelling mediums (radio/cameras/computers/etc). It's so much wildly cheaper and more widely accessible that we're all able to dip our toes into the water at the same time and as a result, we're not exclusively seeing the expression of the rare few who already have powerful artistic visions and massive financial backing.

I do feel deeply for my friends who have already firmly established themselves in their film and music careers and now see their years of effort and struggle to establish themselves in an insanely competitive niche as noteworthy and valued artists disintegrate before their eyes. It's a colossal paradigm shift not only in their perception of their future financial prospects, but also a challenge to their identity.

But speaking frankly, after thinking about AI basically every day for the last few years, as a writer-director and novelist myself, I think AI generated audio-video is actually more akin to a natural evolution of the novel more than film. Nobody is mad that a single person can sit down and write entire universes into existence which come to life in people's imaginations in as many variations as their are people to consume them. Sure with AI video, we're not having to make every micro choice about the wattage of lights or whether we need to use unbleached muslin or flag off windows or lay tracks for dolly moves on camera rigs, but the premise of being able to write worlds and characters into being exactly as I personally imagine them, performing actions that would require the coordination of teams of dozens of people with decades of experience and colossal financial resources (and all the politics that go with that) JUST to create an immersive audio-visual experience for an audience is insanely exciting for me. And don't think for a second that there won't be many creators like me who will obsess over the exact pacing or angle of a shot or the details of wardrobe or the precise array of micro emotions a character is experiencing in a moment. We really have to remember that we're watching the alpha test of this in real time. ALPHA test, not beta. This is like we're building little pieces of a camera and running outside to test it in real time.

When looking for the beauty in the possibilities, patience is paramount.

Love the channel btw! My favorite AI news source by a mile.    See Less

See Less

See Less
