Before diving into the East vs West gameplans, another path for xAI, Elon keeps Grok for-profit but instead jointly announcing a partnership with Apple. Think about it, Apple with their unified memory and neural compute engines (where M5 fixes TTFT) has the hardware.

But they have no inferencing dance partner other than Gemini re: SIRI but that is a singular use-case and could be migrated. What Elon knows, and everyone in the west needs to wake up, while Western frontier labs e.g. OpenAI, Anthropic, Google et al are busy monetizing their centralized cloud inferencing. They are enjoying their 15-minutes of profits.

Enter China.

China has an inverse strategy doing what China does best, leverage Western innovation, copy it, and sell for less or even for free as an entry point loss leader. Think about mainframe compute in the 60's and 70's where user's connected via proprietary cabling or Hayes-like dial-up acoustic coupler modems at 150 baud to what were called "dumb terminals" a.k.a. 80x25 green phosphor monochromatic screens with a keyboard.

Fast forward to today, when we connect to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity et al, whatever hardware you are using is marginally better than a dumb terminal other than higher resolution, faster throughput, an app/browser and a pointing device...I call it Dumb Terminal + x4. So, what's the point? Here is what most are missing.

China's strategy does not stop at open-source/open-weights AI models, that is just the "taste" drug dealers offer for free, no, they are targeting decentralized cluster computing all the way to the Prosumer and Homelab market.

If you own Nvidia stock this should be wake up call. 90% of Nvidia's revenues are datacenter driven - what happens when Corporations figure out they can use Chinese soon-to-be-available GPU's and bring compute in-house?

And just like the PC did to the massive IBM 4341/3033 and even their System 32, 36,38's along with Burroughs, Wang, Digital with their PDP-11's, the majority of centralized computer became decentralized - we are seeing the exact same paradigm shift within AI inferencing that will trickle down to the homelabs which can be done today with Apple silicon running RDMA over Thunderbolt 5 using their MLX/JACCL middleware.

The numbers are already starting to tell this story.

In early February 2026, Apple shares rose approximately 6%, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 fell by 3.3%.

And just wait until next quarter when the OpenClaw induced Mac Mini frenzied revenues are reported - all of this with (1) one product announcement in the past 8 months - the base model of the M5 Macbook Pro.

Apple's 2026/2027 roadmap is going to be a wild ride - and you are reading this here first - it all starts on March 4th, indeed, Apple begins their "march fourth" to capture a significant portion of total AI compute marketshare.
